PROJECT 5

HBCU PRIDE, 2022

This project was for Base10, the world’s largest black-led venture capital fund. They were working on a campaign for Black History Month and they wanted to feature artists from HBCUs.

When they asked for some proposed ideas, this is what I sent: “I was thinking I could make a collage-type piece. This idea came from the introduction of an older show that highlighted HBCU life called " A Different World". In the intro, the cast goes room to room showcasing their characters and it is sort of a monochromatic theme. I want the piece to really highlight the students because they are the people that bring excellence to these institutions. I would also like to focus on the more creative majors because they are not highlighted as much. I will split up my page kind of like the art that I included below. Each section will have a student and their major. For example, a student painting in a classroom. I will have them in some type of memorabilia from different HBCUs such as a sweatshirt or a hat. On the borders that are splitting up the sections, I would like to add the names of more HBCUs just to make sure a good amount of them are included.”
